Workshops

I am available for readings, signings, and workshops. My fee is negotiable (and sometimes free for non-profits, though I'd like to be reimbursed for travel expenses). I do complimentary classroom visits for schools that have bought a classroom set (20 copies or more) of my books.

E-mail me

Because I taught English and drama for many years at the middle school level, I especially like to visit schools to talk about the writing process, as well as read from and discuss my books, Ferradiddledumday and Where There's A Will.

I am listed in the Writers in Virginia directory sponsored by the Virginia Commission for the Arts. (My information is currently out-dated, I don't know when their webmaster will up-date.)

Among the workshops I can present to elementary or middle school groups are these:

  • How Writers Write
  • Getting Ideas, Sharing Ideas
  • Make Your Writing a Little Bit Better
  • Creating Characters

Among the workshops I can present to high school or adult groups are these:

  • Writing Secrets Your English Teacher Should Have Told You But Didn't
  • Fiction Makeover: Dealing with Dull Dialogue, Dreadful Description, & Substandard Sentences
  • Polished Prose & Dazzling Dialogue
  • The Pros & Cons of Self-Publishing

I also do appearances as my character, Ida B. Peevish (proprietress of Ida's Salon of Beauty & Live Bait Shop) from my two collections of Peevish Advice columns.
